Protect Your Intellectual Property with Provably Secure Circuit Locking

Black Box Chip provides industrial-grade circuit locking services that protect your hardware designs from reverse engineering, overproduction, and IP theft. Our implementation uses Trivium stream cipher combined with Goldreich-Goldwasser-Micali (GGM) construction to ensure provable security guarantees

Key Features:

  • Provable Security – Based on IEEE CSF 2022 research, our locking mechanism is mathematically proven to be indistinguishable from random circuits without the correct key

  • Minimal Overhead – Average 8-12% area overhead and less than 0.5% performance impact

  • Secure Key Generation – Each circuit receives a unique 128-bit key generated via Trivium keystream seeding

How Circuit Locking Works

  • Upload Your Netlist – Submit your BLIF, BENCH, or Verilog circuit design
  • Automatic Locking – Our system applies Trivium-based encryption to your circuit
  • Key Generation – A unique 128-bit key is generated for your specific circuit
  • Download Both – Receive your locked circuit and corresponding security key
  • Secure Deployment – Load the key into tamper-proof on-chip memory
Security notice: Each locked circuit is paired with a secret key (Trivium keystream seed). Download and store the key securely — it must be loaded onto tamper-proof on-chip memory before the circuit will function correctly. The locked circuit is provably indistinguishable from any other circuit of the same size without the key.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to Common Inquiries

What is circuit locking?

Circuit locking adds encryption logic to your hardware design so it only functions correctly when the proper key is provided. This prevents unauthorized use, overproduction, and reverse engineering.

We accept BLIF (.blif), BENCH (.bench), and Verilog (.v) netlist formats.

Our implementation uses Trivium stream cipher with GGM construction, proven secure under standard cryptographic assumptions. The scheme is IEEE CSF 2022 certified.

Files are processed securely and automatically deleted after 24 hours. Your locked circuit and key are only available for download immediately after processing.

Yes, this service is suitable for commercial and research use. Each circuit receives unique keying material.

Average overhead is 8-12% in area with negligible performance impact (less than 0.5%).
